V Knits

My name is Venus. I knit as much as possible, while juggling work and various other activities. Currently, my yarn sprees hinder my ability to save up for trips and other important things. But I'm not apologizing.

Silver Lace Leaf

I have been sick and couch-ridden the last couple of days. I have managed to use up one and a half boxes of tissue. My nose is glowing it is so red. So I have been drinking fluids and chicken soup, watching movies and making progress on this.

And here is a close-up of the Lace Leaf Pattern.

I must say I have renewed inspiration for this piece. It feels good that is it getting done and that these past couple of days has not been a total waste! Weird to say but I am looking forward to getting out of the appartment and back to work tomorrow.

Crocheted flower wristlets

Here they are. I've been thinking these up for Jill to sell at her Cancer Walk Fundraiser. Cute, small, cheap. It'll use up my loose ends nicely.

And right now I am struggling to find the inspiration to finish my abandoned UFO's.... It's just as well that I am self-banned from my LYS's.

Don't get your back up over this......

One of my fave Sarah Harmer songs. This piece is slow going. I blaze through the knit side but I get bored when I purl, so I've slowed up on the sweater. Also there has been a little tiny dilemma which I am currently working on remedying.

I have to say that I have slowed on my knitting altogether. I have been crochetting here and there though. I will post pics soon!

Go Sweater Go!!!!!

I am smokin' with this sweater! I thought it would take ages but when you really love a project it'll just motor along! I'm just about a fifth up the other side and I've started the back piece on another set of needles.

Here is a close-up of the lace pattern. I am still in awe of it! But at rate I'm going, I'll have to wait to be able to wear it. It'll be too warm until the fall.

Hey! Watermelon Socks

The name of these socks reminds me of a song we played in jazz band in high school. Watermelon Man (by Mongo Santamaria, though I first heard it played by Herbie Hancock)
This is my first serious attempt at socks, and I don't know how well it is going. But I will learn from my mistakes if I make any.

Rainbow Glove-Mitts

This is a project I started a while ago. I have put it on hold since I have a tendency to slow down on the second of a pair of anything. Also, this is my own pattern and I was so happy to finish the first glove-mitt that I'm just gonna take a break for a bit. But they will be finished!

Project Update

So here is my progress with Baby Kimono. It's been slow going but I've been working on it bit by bit. I also took advantage of some afternoon sunlight for this pic.

On the path to UFO's

In case I get bored with the other works in progress, I've started this sweater (which I found in Vogue Knitting) with a wicked lace pattern. (It's a 32 row repeat) I am absolutely in love with the yarn, the pattern and everything about this project.

On other news, Jill's co-worker brought the two of us along to the West Coast Knitter's Guild meeting yesterday. What a great time we had! there was about 45 ladies all working on different projects, and everyone was really friendly. They do this thing where members bring in unwanted yarn for other members (or guests) to have. I picked up a handspun skein of a natural brown wool. I'm thinking of beading it and making a bag of some sort.

Lace Leaf Scarf

Here is one of the projects I am trying from Vogue Knitting. I've only done one rep of the pattern so it's hard to see, but it looks promising. I also learned the meaning of SK2P (slip stitch, k2tog, pass slipped stitch over) The color of the yarn (which is a mohair/acrylic blend- Watercolors by Estelle) matches the weather today. We were out and about, went to see Episode 3 of Star Wars and it's been raining the whole time. That hasn't put my day on hold though! I'm pretty excited for tomorrow.

And one of my regular reads has started posting again. On My Mind so that's pretty good too.

Rainbow yarn

handspun 2 ply rainbow yarn Posted by Hello

Here is my most recent spinning project! A lovely co-worker of mine went to Salt Spring Island for a weekend trip and brought me back a small bag of beautifully dyed wool. I spun it together with some undyed wool I had spun. I think a felted pocketbook may be in store for this yarn.

On another note, Stitch n' Bitch is this monday. ( fondly referred to as the Thread Heads. ) A bunch of the girls are gearing up to learn how to crochet. And I've got my crafty little hands on the summer Vogue Knitting which has great lacy, summer scarves. Stay tuned for those.

Little Projects

I'm starting a collection of small knitted things for my boyfriend's sister to sell as she is fundraising for a cancer walk she is doing this year. it will mostly be baby clothes and dishclothes since they're so quick. Maybe socks too? This is the first project. (This will also get rid of alot of yarn that has been hanging around in my yarn basket. The great purge has begun!)

Baby Shower Booties

One of the girls that attends the sporadic stitch n' bitch held at my house is expecting. Her surprise baby shower was held this past sunday. Below is a picture of her little gift set. The mini pillow with the heart was one of my few attempts at intarsia. The back of the pillow is solid green. The pattern for the pillow and booties/mitts I made up and the toque pattern can be found in Debbie Stoller's Stitch n' Bitch. (Originally called the Umbilical Cord hat) The pom-pom on the green toque is just a variation.

Right now I'm sort of scrambling to get all of my projects on here, which will take some time. I'll just post them when I work on them. Okay? Okay.
