V Knits

My name is Venus. I knit as much as possible, while juggling work and various other activities. Currently, my yarn sprees hinder my ability to save up for trips and other important things. But I'm not apologizing.

CouchSurfing!

I had gotten a call from my friend in Australia, saying that she'd be working alot and was afraid that I wouldn't be able to see all the things I'd want to see. Well that's no problem! I'd read about a site called CouchSurfing.com and quickly signed up as a member and I'm waiting to hear back from two people that might be able to show me around. I love meeting new people so this is great. I haven't packed just yet. I am getting an idea of how much I will be bringing, which is to say, as little as possible. If anyone is planning on travelling, you should check this site out. It doesn't cost anything to be a member and you don't have to have your couch available 24/7. They just say that if anytime in your life, you may want to let someone stay on your couch, you're more than welcome to join. They go over safety and tips and all that good stuff. They offer a verification service too.

No knits, no pics

Well, the past week I am sad to say that I did no knit once. What happened? Well, the Boyfriend had coaxed me into playing my guitar and I haven't stopped. That and I am re-reading a book I haven't been able to put down. You know a book is good if you choose to read over knitting. It is call Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. And now that I will soon be back to my knitty ways, I have no camera to post pictures, because the Boyfriend has taken it on a visit to his grandma's. But all is well because he will be back in a week and I am off to buy the long awaited sequel to the book I am reading. Yay!

Don't look back in anger.......I heard you say

Oasis blew my effing mind! Their concert was Sept. 8th, the thursday that just passed. I heart Noel. I guess the last time they played Vancouver, someone threw something at them on stage and they left abruptly. I think things went better this time around. Liam even said near the end of the show that we were 'very nice people'. I can't even express in words how great it was. The opening bands, Kasabian and Jet rocked ass!

Branching Out and Recycling

As promised, here is a picture of Gladys' scarf, the Branching Out Scarf from Knitty.com

And coincidentally, Georgia at On My Mind is knitting the same pattern.

I also had some spare cotton yarn unravelled from an old sweater of Boyfriend's so I decided, why not more socks? He's the one that suggested the red stripe, and I like it! The red yarn is left over from a scarf I had knit him. I wonder if I will end up giving the socks to him? it only seems natural.

FO - My First Sweater (or Auditioning for "The Village")

Well, here it is. I've finally finished it.
The hooded pullover, with front wrap and double-sided flower lace pattern. (I don't really know what to call it.) I absolutely adore it. How can I not though? It's my first sweater.

Here's the front view.

And the back view.

And my audition piece for M. Night Shyamalan's "The Village". Side view of the hood with lace pattern.

This was the picture accompanying the pattern in Vogue Knitting's Summer 2005

And here are the stats.

Pattern:
Hooded Pullover - Vogue Knitting Summer 2005

Yarn:
Fleece Artist- Kid Aran (50% Kid/ 50% Wool)
400m/250g in Mellow Yellow (3 skeins)

Needles:
5mm bamboo straight needles
4.5mm plastic straight needles

Pros:
Beautiful finished product. And once I got into the rhythm of the lace pattern I sped through it. The yarn was great to knit with too. I love Fleece Artist yarns! And this is not a sweater I would have bought in a store. I kind of miss it now that it's finished.

Cons:
Three words. Dyelot, dyelot, dyelot!!! Argh. You can probably tell from the pictures that the hood and the top two-thirds of the front are darker than the rest of the sweater. That is my fault and I can't birng myself to dye the entire sweater. It's Fleece Artist. That would yarn sacrilege. But this will never happen again. Never.

So that's it. I've just cast on for a scarf for my morning friend Gladys. Pics on that later.
